Why Play Free Blackjack?

Free Online Blackjack GamesFree blackjack games offer you a chance to play blackjack without risking any money. You might ask, well, what's the point in playing blackjack if you're not going to risk money?

I have a couple of answers for you.

For one thing, if you're brand new to the game of blackjack, you should learn the basics of how the game works. Not just how to place your bets, but also what happens in what order.

For example, if you just read the instructions for how to play blackjack, you might get confused about when you win or lose if the dealer busts. But it's pretty doggone important to understand that the dealer doesn't have to take any action at all until you've acted. And that's something you're not necessarily going to realize from just reading the rules of the game online.

Another reason to play freeblackjack is in order to learn basic strategy. If you don't already know what "basic strategy" is, let me explain. It's the mathematically correct play in every single situation. It's not hard to learn, since there are a relatively small number of starting hands you can have in blackjack. There are 10 possible pairs, for example, so learning which pairs to split shouldn't take a long time. There are also 11 possible soft hands. Again, not an overwhelming number of strategies to memorize.

But I shouldn't oversimplify. It's not just a question of which cards you hold in your hand. The card that the dealer is showing face up matters too. But still, learning basic strategy is more fun if you're using a game to teach it to you.

Where to Play Free Blackjack

The first thing you need to do is find someplace to play. I used to be able to play in some free blackjack games here in Dallas. Dave and Buster's offered a free game where you could play for play money chips. And the Ranch House, in Sachse, TX, also offered a free blackjack game, even though they only offered it on Friday and Saturday nights.

Both places had a leaderboard where you could track how well you did compared to the other freebie blackjack players. But neither place continues to offer those games.

Real casinos, like the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma, or any of the casinos in Las Vegas, don't offer free blackjack games. They DO offer free lessons, usually, so be sure to ask someone who works at the casino if you can take one of their blackjack classes. They won't teach you the nuances of basic strategy or how to count cards, but the classes are a great way to learn the basics of how to play.

But the easiest way to learn is play some of the free online blackjack games available. All online casinos offer free games to try for play money. You don't have to make a deposit to play these free games.

Why would an online casino offer these kinds of games? It's not out of the goodness of the casino managers' hearts, I promise. They want you to try the games in hopes that you'll have fun and try playing for real money.

I've always suspected that the free 21 games at most Internet casinos were rigged. That may or may not be true, but I always seemed to have a lot winning streaks when I tried to play blackjack for free at an online casino. My guess is that they want you to feel like a winner in the play money games so that you'll try out the real money games.

Other sites offer free blackjack games too. Hit or Stand is one of my favorite free 21 games to play, because it has a built in strategy trainer. They're not offering the game out of the goodness of their heart, either. The site sells advertising, probably on a CPM basis. (I'm not sure of that, but it's a safe guess, since a lot of advertising is sold that way online.) At any rate, the advertising on Hit or Stand is subtle and doesn't interfere with the fun you have playing their free game.

Blackjack Info is another great blackjack site with a free game available. Like Hit or Stand, Blackjack Info offers basic strategy training while you play. Ken Smith, the editor of Blackjack Info, is also one of the nicest guys in the blackjack business. Smith is also interested in speaking Spanish, traveling, and astronomy. It's easy to like a blackjack player and writer with such a diverse range of interests.
